Tadano was founded by Masahiko Tadano in Yamaguchi, Japan in 1919. Initially, it was engaged in the production of woodworking equipment and was called Fujitsuka-cho. In 1948, it was renamed, and the now familiar name Tadano Ltd. appeared. The plant itself reoriented itself to the production of machines for loading and unloading, and later cranes.
In 1955, the first full-swing hydraulic truck crane Tadano was released, which became an important moment in the history of the company. In the 1960s, the manufacturer began active development and production of machines of various lifting capacities. The company quickly gained fame in Japan, thanks to its reliability and innovative solutions.
Since 1973, Tadano began exporting cranes to international markets, opening representative offices and dealer networks in different countries. This allowed it to expand its global presence and become one of the world's leading manufacturers. In 2001, Tadano acquired the American company Span Deck Inc., which specializes in the production of truck-mounted cranes. Four years later, Faun GmbH, and in 2017, a stake in Demag Mobile Cranes.
