Mantis crawler cranes, first released in 1979 by the American company SpanDeck, were equipped with a hydraulically driven retractable boom and were intended for highly specialized work.
However, in recent years, construction companies around the world have shown interest in these machines. And this is not surprising, because they exert less pressure on the ground, have increased cross-country ability and are quickly brought into working condition. Such crawler cranes, due to the compactness of the boom equipment, allow replacing a classic crawler-mounted machine equipped with lattice booms on many sites, and even outperform a larger truck crane. Of course, the number of models of telescopic cranes on tracks from various manufacturers has grown significantly.
The efficiency of using telescopic cranes on crawler tracks depends on the area of application. An illustrative example is an American company that carried out work at an agro-processing complex bordering on railway tracks. The operator was forced to change the location of the 230-tonne crawler several times a day. Over seven months, the telescopic crane worked 1,650 hours and travelled more than 15 km, essentially working in one place.
