History of Altec Cranes

Altec is an American manufacturer of cranes, aerial platforms and manipulators for a wide range of tasks in the field of construction, telecommunications, utilities, installation and maintenance of facilities. It has a wide range of products with the ability to use almost any commercial chassis of the US market: International, Ford, Peterbilt, Dodge, Freightliner, etc. It is part of a large financial consortium headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Altec AC45-127S crawler self-propelled crane on a Prinoth PANTHER T22 motorized crawler chassis is a structurally special lifting machine equipped with boom lifting equipment in the form of a full-turn telescopic boom mounted on a snow and swamp vehicle platform with high cross-country performance. The use of a self-propelled crane on a crawler chassis with a high boom lifting capacity allows solving the problem of a shortage of all-terrain lifting machines in remote regions where it is not possible to use wheeled crane machines for good roads. Therefore, the design of the all-terrain truck crane uses a non-standard technical solution - the use of a snow and swamp-going vehicle chassis.

The highly mobile self-propelled crawler truck crane is used mainly at remote large-scale construction sites and in oil and gas production, when it is necessary to deliver lifting equipment on unequipped technological roads. The crane chassis allows the machine to move confidently in conditions of a complete lack of roads, in marshy terrain, on soil with a weak bearing capacity of swamps, in snowy conditions of the Tundra, Arctic and Antarctica. To increase the working capabilities, the crane telescopic unit of the crawler truck crane has attachments - a cradle of a car lift, a drilling rig for drilling with an auger, various manipulators of the "golden handle" type.

Altec AC45-127S crane unit has a 5-section boom with a maximum lifting capacity of 41 tons (or 45 short tons) at a reach of 3 meters, with a maximum boom reach in height of 41.1 meters, with a load at reach of 340 kg. Crane unit control from the operator's cabin. Boom access for sweeping is full-turn. Crane unit supports are H-shaped with a support contour. Prinoth PANTHER T22 tracked chassis has a chassis using multi-layer rubber-reinforced tracks. The drive wheel (drive sprocket) of the all-terrain vehicle-truck crane as an element of the track drive, rewinds the track by means of a pin engagement. The width of the track support surface is 1105 mm. Rubber running wheels, 5 pieces per side. The roller suspension uses a balance beam, which connects two wheels into a pair. The fifth roller has its own lever with a balance beam suspension. The drive of the drive wheel is hydraulic, using a hydrostatic stroke. The main power unit of the all-terrain vehicle is a powerful Caterpillar C9.3 diesel engine with a capacity of 350 hp.
